A little bonus newsletter, because today was Hourly Comics Day!
Hourly Comics Day takes place on the 1st of February every year. You do one comic for every hour of your day from the time you wake up til the time you go to bed.
Now that’s a pretty big commitment, and I’m in awe of anyone who can produce that amount of work, let alone in a polished and beautiful way.
But this year it fell on a day where I was in a pretty determined mindset to finally attempt it myself! (It also helped that it was a Saturday.)
I sketched out my first hour, and prepared myself to properly ink it, colour it, and generally improve the entire thing. And then I realised I had to make a choice. Manage a few polished pieces. Or relinquish that control and perfectionism, and get a bunch of ‘drafts’ done.
Surprising myself, I chose the latter, and found it to be a really freeing and productive challenge because of that choice. Letting go, embracing idea over realisation, enjoying the looseness of it all. I managed to document my day from 9am to 9pm, in 12 simple wee comics. And really enjoyed balancing making them, with having an actual eventful day to draw about.
I posted them on Bluesky throughout the day but wanted to put them all in one, easily accessible place. So here they are!
Happy Imbolc, hope you’ve had a wonderful day, comic drawing or not.
